7 Tips to Get Your Home Prepared for a Showing - Victoria Velasquez Real Estate - Keller Williams Urban Dallas

1. Let in the light.
Open curtains and pull up the shades to let in as much light as possible. Turn on the lights throughout the house.

2. Clean.
A dirty home does not look well maintained. Clean your home from top to bottom. This includes the closets and cabinets.

3. Staging.
Having your home staged to look appealing to buyers can make a difference. Staging furniture can make a room look bigger. Staging with flowers can make a room more inviting. There are many things that can be done to help in staging.

4. Declutter.
All of your belongings do not sell with the home, so now is the time to de-clutter and remove personal items such as photos and collections. Less is better in selling a home. Decluttering allows a potential buyer a better idea of how his/her belongings will be in certain places.

5. Curb Appeal
A buyer's first impression is made when that person pulls up the driveway. Make sure your home is tidy and welcoming. Plant flowers in the front or display them in pots.

6. Pets
If you have pets, you need to make their presence disappear. Likewise, if they bark, they need to go to someone else's home during the walk-thru. Barking can be very distracting. Food bowls should be stored and their toys should be hidden.

7. Don't Stay
When your home has a showing scheduled, you need to leave. A buyer wants to feel comfortable inspecting your home which is difficult to do if you are there. Showing a home usually has a 1 - 2 hour timeframe for the buyers to show up and view the property. It's best to make other plans during this time.
